Bring a pot of salted water to boil. Have a bowl filled with ice water standing by.
Blanch green beans for 3–4 minutes until bright green. Drain and plunge into ice water, then pat dry.
In a small bowl, combine San-J Tamari, honey, and red pepper flakes, if using.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic slices and cook until golden, 1–2 minutes.
Add green beans and the tamari honey mixture to the skillet. Toss and cook 3–4 minutes until beans are tender-crisp and coated.
Remove from heat, taste, and add salt and pepper if desired. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and add lemon zest before serving.
