Garlic Tamari Green Beans with Toasted Almonds

Ingredients

  • Kosher or fine sea salt
  • 2 pounds fresh green beans trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons San-J Tamari Soy Sauce*
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 6 cloves garlic thinly sliced
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds
  • Zest of ½ lemon

Directions

  • Bring a pot of salted water to boil. Have a bowl filled with ice water standing by.
  • Blanch green beans for 3–4 minutes until bright green. Drain and plunge into ice water, then pat dry.
  • In a small bowl, combine San-J Tamari, honey, and red pepper flakes, if using.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic slices and cook until golden, 1–2 minutes.
  • Add green beans and the tamari honey mixture to the skillet. Toss and cook 3–4 minutes until beans are tender-crisp and coated.
  • Remove from heat, taste, and add salt and pepper if desired. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and add lemon zest before serving.
*NOTE: To make this gluten-free dish also soy-free, swap San-J Tamari Soy Sauce with San-J No Soy Tamari.
