Who are we at San-J, and what do we do?
It starts with our Tamari. Unlike typical soy sauce, which contains about 40-60% wheat, Tamari is a type of soy sauce that is made with 100% soybeans and no wheat. This means more soy protein is contained in the finished product, resulting in a milder taste and higher complexity of flavors in the sauce. It is said that Tamari is the origin of Japanese soy sauce, and our brewing methods continue to provide authentic food experiences in today's kitchens.
When the Sato family began making soy sauce and miso as the San-Jirushi company in 1804, they started a legacy that still boldly endures. Eight generations have passed along the method of brewing high-quality Tamari from the finest soybeans.

The San-J Mission to Bring a Smile to Every Table
Soy sauce is one of the most important ingredients in Japanese kitchens and it is used for almost every Japanese recipe. Traditionally, it is used as a dip for sushi and sashimi, a condiment for tofu and vegetables, as well as a flavoring for simmered dishes, marinades, stir-frying, and pickling.
We crafted our Tamari Soy Sauce to be a great flavor enhancer for all types of ingredients – poultry, meat, fish, tofu and vegetables. Add a few splashes of our Tamari to your sauce, soups, dressings, gravies, and casseroles. Our Tamari gives a rich, full flavor to any food without taking over their taste. That is the technique called kakushi-aji (hidden flavor) used by culinary professionals and skilled home chefs.
Whether you want to cook authentic Asian dishes or try to take your recipes to the next level, San-J Tamari can help you prepare the perfect meal.
